One dead and a child injured after shooting at Potomac High School youth football game – Washington Examiner

A man and a child were shot at a Potomac High School football game on Saturday in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Prince George’s County Police said to the Washington Examiner. The suspect fled after the shooting, and police are currently searching for them.

Police found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds when officers responded at around 11:20 a.m. The man was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, while the child was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers & investigators are at Potomac HS in Oxon Hill for a shooting outside at a sporting event. Right now there are 2 victims. Active search for the suspect who fled after the shooting. We will update as soon as possible when info is confirmed.

Detectives are still working to identify “suspect(s) and motive in this case.” The event was an under 7-year-old football game, and a team was “in the middle of running a play” when shots were fired, according to WUSA9.

The crime takes place as Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks is campaigning for U.S. Senate in Maryland as a Democrat. She recently campaigned with Vice President Kamala Harris at an event speaking about gun violence, in nearby Landover, Maryland.

Violent crime is up 13% in the county year-to-date, according to a June 8 crime report. Overall, crime is down 10%.
