White House defends Biden’s ‘lucidity’ amid Democratic mutiny – Washington Examiner

The White House defended President Joe Biden‘s age and mental acuity as he launches his own defense of his presumptive nomination as the Democratic Party’s 2024 standard-bearer.

“In my experience, the last 2 1/2 years, I have not seen any reason whatsoever to question or doubt his lucidity, his grasp of context, his probing nature, and the degree to which he is completely in charge of facts and figures,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters Monday.

Kirby described himself as being “uncomfortable” with the questions regarding Biden’s age and mental acuity that have been raised after his opening debate this month against former President Donald Trump in which he appeared to lose his train of thought.

“What I saw in that debate is not reflective of the man and the leader and commander in chief that I have spent many hours with over the last 2 1/2 years,” he said.

Kirby also downplayed speculation the White House National Security Council has delayed conveying information to Biden because of the time of day. Biden told Democratic governors last week he would try to shorten his public schedule, avoiding events after 8 p.m.
