Melania Trump: Shooting was ‘brink of devastating change’ – Washington Examiner

Former first lady Melania Trump on Sunday released a statement on the assassination attempt of her husband, former President Donald Trump.

Melania said the shooting, which left Trump with a grazed ear but otherwise unharmed and one spectator dead, put her and their son’s life “on the brink of devastating change.”

“When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” she said in a statement.

Melania condemned the shooter she called a “monster who recognized my husband as an inhumane political machine.” The suspected shooter was identified by authorities as 20-year-old Matthew Crooks of Pennsylvania.

She also urged voters to look beyond the politics of her husband, who will be nominated as the GOP’s presidential nominee this week at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love,” Melania said. “Our personal, structural, and life commitment — until death — is at serious risk. Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.”
