Social media widely pans Ingrid Andress’s national anthem performance at Home Run Derby – Washington Examiner

Major League Baseball hosted its 2024 Home Run Derby on Monday night, and the verdict from viewers is that Ingrid Andress’s rendition of the national anthem was a swing and a miss.

Andress, a four-time Grammy-nominated country singer, performed off-key on several notes in the song. Social media users widely panned it, with some joking that their universal dislike of the song provided unity in a time of division.

“Definitely one of the anthems of all time,” one user wrote. Another compared her performance to “Gitmo interrogation recordings.”

Ingrid Andress was the person we needed as a country at this moment to unite all of us, right and left, black and white, Christian or Muslim or Jew, in wondering if her Grammy nominations were for Gitmo interrogation recordings https://t.co/FvLU1jw4HT

Just please don’t try to sing our National Anthem ever again.

“Joe Biden could’ve sang that better,” another user on X quipped.

Andress’s rendition also brought comparisons to Fergie’s performance of the national anthem in 2018 before the NBA’s All-Star Game. Many people criticized Fergie’s unique take on the anthem, with some people in the audience visibly trying not to laugh during her performance.

Comedian Roseanne Barr‘s performance in 1990 at a San Diego Padres game was also slammed for being shrill and off-key.
