Sununu says Vance makes ‘every American’ more comfortable with a Trump reelection – Washington Examiner

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) endorsed former President Donald Trump’s choice for vice president, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), saying he “makes every American more comfortable with a second Trump administration” in an interview.

Sununu’s statement to CNN comes after he endorsed Nikki Haley in the Republican primaries and was an outspoken critic of Trump.

“He’s a Marine,” the governor of New Hampshire said. “He’s a dad. He’s incredibly smart, came out of Yale. Pulled himself up from his own bootstraps. He’s a great example of what you want to see in an executive position driving policy, driving results for Americans in all facets of life. … Donald Trump did a great job picking J.D. to be the next Vice President.”

Sununu’s glowing endorsement of Vance continued as he said, “[Haley] doesn’t necessarily bring more unity than Vance on the ticket,” after he was asked if Haley would’ve been a better choice.

Sununu posted on X soon after Trump picked Vance, writing: “Congratulations to [J.D. Vance] our next Vice President! Being a Marine is a big win in my family. As a Dad, he knows the kitchen table issues we all face. Americans have the opportunity to unite behind this ticket and move our country forward!”

The governor’s endorsement is a rare show of favor for Trump as the more centrist politician had avoided speaking out for Trump. Many Republicans have favored Vance’s selection, though there was some belief within the party that Trump could’ve “expanded the tent,” and some believe Vance’s selection worked against that.

Sununu recently ruled out a Senate run in 2026, when Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s (D-NH) term expires, but he did not rule out a presidential run in the future, saying, “I’m 49. Who knows what happens 10-20 years down the road.”
