Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), former President Donald Trump‘s running mate, expressed increased confidence that the 2024 election will be fairer than its 2020 counterpart.
“I think we’re making a lot of progress,” Vance told Fox News on Sunday. “Georgia passed a mandatory voter ID law. I think that makes Georgia’s elections much more secure. I think that we’ve got some good court cases, some good legal changes going all across the country. The [Republican National Committee] has been more aggressive about this in 2024 than they have been in 2020.”
Although Vance added “there’s still a lot of work to do,” he said he is “very confident” the 2024 election “is going to be a better election” than 2020.
Vance made the comments during a live interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures in between clips of Bartiromo’s sit down last week with Trump. Bartiromo said Trump had reiterated his claim the 2020 election had been “stolen” from him during their conversation. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would have overturned the 2020 election in his favor.
During his interview, Vance also dismissed Democratic criticism of him as “weird” as they amplify comments he made in 2021 about Vice President Kamala Harris, now the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, and other Democrats being “a bunch of childless cat ladies miserable at their own lives.”
“I recognize that there are a lot of folks, even in the GOP establishment and certainly on the far Left, who don’t like the fact that Donald Trump picked me,” Vance said. “I actually take their criticism as a badge of honor. Of course, the media is going to attack the people they fear the most. The media is going to attack the people, I think, who can most effectively bring President Trump’s message to a broader swath of the electorate.”
“They can call me whatever they want to,” he added. “The middle school taunts don’t bother me. What bothers me and what offends me is what Kamala Harris has done to this country over three and a half years.”
Vance similarly downplayed the importance of Harris’s own running mate, despite the likelihood that he will have to debate that person before November.

“Whoever she chooses, the problem is going to be Kamala Harris’s record and Kamala Harris’s policies,” he said. “The American people are suffering because Kamala Harris keeps on making bad decisions. I don’t really care who she chooses as a running mate. It’s not going to be good for the country.”
Harris’s self-imposed deadline to tap her vice presidential nominee is next Tuesday after her campaign announced last week that she and her No. 2 would embark on a five-day, seven-state swing starting in Philadelphia on that day.
