Former Trump spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham will speak at DNC – Washington Examiner

Ex-Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Convention this week.

Grisham worked with former President Donald Trump for more than five years before resigning in January 2021. These days, she says she’s disillusioned with his “extremism” and can be found vouching for Harris, Trump’s chief competitor.

“I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention,” Grisham told NBC. “But after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out.”

“While I don’t agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to be supporting her because I know she will defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity,” she added.

In a high-profile nod to her transfer of political allegiance, Grisham will address Harris supporters on Tuesday during the second evening of the DNC.

Grisham joined the Trump campaign as a press aide in 2015, later becoming the White House press secretary and communications director. She also served as former first lady Melania Trump’s top spokeswoman and chief of staff.

Grisham said in 2021 that while the former first lady convinced her not to leave the Trump administration several times, she ultimately resigned because of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

Although Trump has argued that he played no role in inciting the riot at the Capitol, pointing to social media posts he made calling for “no violence” and urging supporters to “remain peaceful,” he failed to convince his wife’s top aide.

“Jan. 6, of course, was my breaking point,” Grisham said on Meet the Press. “And I was really proud that I was, well, the first in the administration to resign.”

While Grisham was known for her status as the top attack dog during her tenure in the Trump White House, hurling acid-toned tweets at her boss’s critics, now she’s turning the fire back on the top Republican. In the days since her resignation, Grisham has become a harsh critic of Trump, alleging he told her to give false information to the press during her tenure.

After his former press secretary said he had “no respect for classified information,” Trump replied back and said Grisham was “lying” last year.
