Harris’s plan to address economy still shrouded in mystery: Sarah Bedford – Washington Examiner

The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford said Vice President Kamala Harris’s plans to address concerns on the economy and inflation are still unknown amid her quest to be “all things to all people.”

Harris’s campaign has been portraying the 2024 presidential candidate as a centrist on many matters who is “not going to repeat” the mistakes made by the Biden administration. Meanwhile, Harris has said publicly that her values have not changed. She stated this most recently during her first sit-down interview on CNN last week since becoming the Democratic presidential candidate.

“And all the while, we haven’t really heard from the horse’s mouth what any of her plans are when she was asked in the one interview that she’s done since becoming the nominee why she hasn’t tried to bring down prices or address economic anxieties, even though she’s been in office for three and a half years, she blamed the pandemic, which most Americans have basically forgotten about at this point,” Bedford said on Fox Business’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast.

Part of the reason Harris has not discussed the economy, Bedford assessed, is because many voters blame the Biden administration for the high cost of living. Bedford cited how Harris is “very closely” associated with the administration’s handling of the economy because she “openly endorsed Bidenomics.”

One dilemma Harris faces with avoiding the economy is letting former President Donald Trump “define the conversation” around this topic. Bedford added that most voters have “pretty good memories” of how things were during the Trump administration.

During Harris’s sit-down interview, which was conducted with CNN’s Dana Bash, the vice president said strengthening the “middle class” is a top priority for her. However, she only detailed a general outline for her “opportunity economy” proposal, prompting pollster Frank Luntz to call her answer “essentially worthless.”

The Harris campaign then released an ad knocking Trump for embracing policies that will allegedly hurt the middle class. This ad, titled “focused,” is part of a previous $370 million ad reservation that is set to run from Labor Day to Election Day.
