Harris issues statement saying she is ‘deeply disturbed’ by assassination attempt on Trump – Washington Examiner

Vice President Kamala Harris issued a statement on Sunday condemning the suspected assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. The Democratic nominee for president claimed she was “deeply disturbed” by the attempt on Trump’s life and condemned political violence in the country.

“I am deeply disturbed by the possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. As we gather the facts, I will be clear: I condemn political violence,” read Harris’s statement. “We all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more violence.”

The statement from the vice president came later in the day after it was confirmed that Secret Service agents fired at a suspect with a rifle with a scope near where the former president was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday. The FBI declared the incident an assassination attempt.

“The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” read a statement released by the FBI.

Harris also expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement officials for protecting the former president. Additionally, she said she was thankful Trump was not hurt or seriously injured.

“I am thankful that former President Trump is safe,” Harris said. “I commend the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement partners for their vigilance. As President Biden said, our Administration will ensure the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to carry out its critical mission.”
