Former President Donald Trump holds an advantage on foreign policy in key swing states over Vice President Kamala Harris, even as she holds a national lead on the matter in a new poll.
A poll from the Institute for Global Affairs and YouGov shows Harris leading Trump, 53%-47%, nationally when asked which candidate would “pursue a foreign policy which benefits people like you.” However, in six key swing states, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Trump flips that and holds a 53%-47% lead over Harris on the question.
In the Rust Belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Trump leads Harris 51%-49% on the question, while in the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, Trump holds a 52%-48% lead. Trump also holds key leads on several other foreign policy matters, and Harris holds a lead nationally.
When asked which of the two would “be a strong leader who advances America’s interests internationally,” Harris leads Trump nationally, 52%-48%, but Trump holds a 54%-46% lead in the swing states. Nationally, Harris leads Trump at 52%-47% when asked who would “improve America’s international reputation,” but in the swing states, Trump leads at 51%-49%.
Both nationally and in the battlegrounds, more people think Trump is likelier than Harris to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, 51%-49% and 58%-42%, respectively. Trump also leads Harris nationally and in swing states when asked who would “respond effectively if China attacks Taiwan,” 53%-47% and 58%-42%, respectively.

The survey comes as President Joe Biden prepares to deliver his final speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visits the country.
Zelensky visited Pennsylvania earlier this week, something Trump noted at a rally in the Keystone State on Monday. Trump said he believes Zelensky is rooting for Harris in the election, hoping to get more funding for the war effort as the former president pushes for an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this month he wanted Harris to win the election.
