A video shared on Facebook claims the Harris campaign is purportedly paying non-citizens $700 a week to attend rallies and protests.
Verdict: False
The claim is neither referenced on 2024 Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign website nor her verified social media accounts, and there is no other evidence to support the claim.
Fact Check:
A new Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll indicates Harris has a narrow lead over 2024 Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump in six battleground states, including Nevada and Pennsylvania, according to The Hill. Harris is ahead of Trump by seven points in Nevada and by five points in Pennsylvania, the outlet reported.
The Facebook video claims the Harris campaign is purportedly paying non-citizens $700 a week to attend rallies and to protest. The claim is made by an unnamed blonde woman, who says she got the information from her nail salon technician.
“Their one cousin is in South Philly, and listen to this. She is getting paid $700 a week to go to wherever Kamala’s campaign tells them to go to. So it’s a $100 a day, $700 a week, and she’s not even a citizen,” the woman says in the same video.
“So their campaign is getting a bunch of people. That’s why you see these people on the side of the roads with with signs or whatever, going to these protests. They get travel paid for and everything, and they’re not even able to vote,” she continues.
The claim originally stems from TikTok, where it was shared by the social media user, @thatboostedchick. The woman who made the video is a model and restaurant owner who posts pro-Trump content, according to her profile.
According to the U.K.-based outlet The Independent, the woman’s name is Samantha Gangwere, and she is an OnlyFans model. The outlet also indicated that Trump shared Gangwere’s TikTok video claiming the Harris campaign was paying non-citizens to attend rallies via his TRUTH Social account.
