Cory Mills helping Helene victims after ‘abandonment under Biden-Harris’ administration – Washington Examiner

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) announced he and his partner organizations are making progress in their efforts to help North Carolinians devastated by Hurricane Helene, saying the storm victims were abandoned by the Biden-Harris administration.

“There’s been a complete pattern of abandonment under Biden-Harris,” Mills told Laura Ingraham of Fox News. “You have to shame them into doing what is right.”

Mills has helped deliver over 18,000 pounds of relief material and set up at least 20 Starlink systems in his effort to help victims, he said.

“I saw my first FEMA truck today, and they admitted that they just got here this morning,” Mills said. “Yesterday, Laura, you had President Biden, who came in here, shut down our actual capabilities for up to four hours, putting a 30-mile [temporary flight restriction] after abandoning this place for six days.”

Helene is the deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland of the United States since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and it has killed over 200 people.

If cities ravaged by Helene were named “Ukraine,” they would possibly get more assistance from the federal government, the congressman suggested.

“Then you think about Mayorkas, who said they’re at the end of their funding, but he doesn’t want to tell the American people that money that was supposed to go to disaster relief was actually utilized and repurposed for immigration resettlement,” according to Mills.

“So let’s go ahead and call the truth to what is going on here. It’s the America last agenda. It’s focused on 9,000 miles away. Not 900 or 90 miles away. It’s keep our borders open, while we go ahead and secure everyone else’s,” the Florida Republican said.

Mills plans to stay in Helene-affected areas for as long as he can until the federal government steps up, he said.

“I can tell you this is community-based,” Mills said. “This is veterans who are coming together. These are charity organizations who are coming together, and it’s the community that who is delivering. It is not the federal government at this point.”
