Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dodged answering why she is still driving a Tesla instead of a union-made electric vehicle, saying she is “actually looking into trading in” the Tesla now.

The congresswoman, known for going by her initials AOC, told Face the Nation about her original decision to purchase a Tesla rather than an EV model made by the United Auto Workers union.

“Our car was purchased during the pandemic before a vaccine had come out, so travel between New York and Washington, the safest way that we determined was an EV, but that was prior to some of the new models coming out on the market that had the range available,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Sunday.

At the time of the 2020 purchase, the only domestic and union-made electric vehicle for sale was the Chevrolet Bolt. Today, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Ford’s F-150 Lightning pickup are also available.

Her comments Sunday came after she stated earlier this year that she was looking forward to buying a union-made electric vehicle.

Ocasio-Cortez said that her Tesla will “hopefully” get traded in soon.

Last year, the New York Democrat also said she would sell her Tesla.

Ocasio-Cortez’s plans to sell her car came after she and billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, experienced a disagreement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
