Verdict: False
This video has been manipulated. It uses a clip from an old episode of ‘The Simpsons’ that features an unrelated, fictitious hurricane.
Fact Check:
President Joe Biden has called for bipartisan efforts to grant more aid and partake in recovery efforts following the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton earlier this year, according to The New York Times.
A clip going around purports to show another amazing ‘Simpsons’ prediction, this time being Hurricane Milton making landfall. “The Simpsons did it again,” the post’s caption reads.
The viral video is altered, and uses footage from an older episode of ‘The Simpsons’ with references to Milton edited in. There is no proof that any episode has mentioned Hurricane Milton, which made landfall in Florida on October 9th.
According to Lead Stories, the clip used in the viral video comes from an episode that aired in 1996 named “Hurricane Neddy.” The original video features a “newscast” that warns of “Hurricane Barbara”, a fictitious storm that the editor recently manipulated to reference Milton.
And the weather service has warned us to brace ourselves for the onslaught of Hurricane Barbara.
And if you think naming a destructive storm after a woman is sexist, you obviously have never seen the gals grabbing for items at a clearance sale! pic.twitter.com/lUzQYbDidS
