Pelosi slams Biden impeachment inquiry: ‘If you have a difference of opinion, you just can’t be impeaching’

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dismissed the current Biden impeachment inquiry, saying Republicans have no grounds to do so based on what she views as a “difference of opinion.”

Pelosi has joined Democratic lawmakers in calling the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s involvement in alleged foreign money laundering and bribery schemes a “fake distraction” from the looming government shutdown deadline. While speaking with MSNBC host Jen Psaki, the former House speaker said she does not believe Republicans “have the courage” to see it through.

“They have no goods. They’ve been for months and months and months trying to make some kind of a charge,” Pelosi said. “I don’t think they will ever bring it to the floor. They won’t have the votes. Their members in districts that President Biden won, not that they’re so fond President Biden, but these voters will say that that’s just not the right way to go.”

“If you have a difference of opinion, you just can’t be impeaching, impeaching,” she continued. “On the other hand, this is a fake distraction, as you said. They don’t even have the courage to bring it to the floor.”

On Monday, the House Oversight Committee released the list of witness for its first impeachment inquiry hearing to be held on Thursday. The witnesses include Bruce Dubinsky, a forensic accountant with 40 years of experience, Eileen O’Connor, a former assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice’s tax division, and Johnathon Turley, the Shapiro Chair for Public Interest Law at George Washington University Law School.

“Thousands of pages of financial records, emails, texts, testimony from credible IRS whistleblowers, and a transcribed interview with Biden family business associate Devon Archer all reveal that Joe Biden allowed his family to sell him as ‘the brand’ around the world to enrich the Biden family. Joe Biden showed up on at least two dozen occasions to send signals of access, influence, and power to those who were paying the Bidens,” Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said in a statement. “This week, the House Oversight Committee will present evidence uncovered to date and hear from legal and financial experts about crimes the Bidens may have committed as they brought in millions at the expense of U.S. interests.”

Thursday’s hearing comes just two days before the federal government is set to run out of funding on Sept. 30.
