Hail Storm Destroys Cars In Texas

Car owners in Round Rock, central Texas, walked outside of their homes Sunday to find their cars and other property utterly hammered.

Footage shared online by Texas state Rep. Caroline Harris shows what she walked into as a massive, torrential hail storm struck the area, causing widespread damage and chaos. Car windows were smashed to ribbons, some totally crushed under the pummeling of ice.

A shorter video shared directly from Harris’ Twitter account shows hail coating the skies and ground like a wall of violence as citizens hid under an overpass at IH35 and 620. It’s really hard to fathom how heavy the hail must have been falling, as well as the size of each individual piece. It sounds like a river is flowing over the top of the overpass as the hail hits the concrete and tarmac.

Follow-up photographs show a parking lot where cars were particularly damaged by the storm. Storm cinematographer Gabe Cox said he didn’t see a single car without a cracked windshield or destroyed rear window. The hail also apparently caused problems along the I-35, leading to a large police and firefighter response. Hail was the size of a baseball in Georgetown, Texas, as the severe thunderstorm warnings continued. Residents were told to stay indoors.
