Gas prices: Less expensive than a week ago – Washington Examiner

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas decreased on Monday to $3.175, according to AAA. The drop in price provided some financial relief for the nation’s commuters. Monday’s decrease also comes after several days of increases at the pumps last week.

Gas prices are also lower than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas was $3.214. Monday’s price for a gallon of regular gas is the lowest average price in the country since January 2024, when regular gas was $3.075. Overall, gas prices have fluctuated throughout the year and vary significantly among states.

The price of gas is a crucial topic heading into next month’s presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances. Gas prices remain higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Gas prices in Washington remain cheaper than a month ago when regular gas cost residents in the district $3.369 per gallon.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland dropped on Monday. The new price is $3.155 per gallon, slightly less expensive than Sunday’s, which was $3.159. Gas prices are also lower than a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.239. However, a gallon of regular gas in Maryland was more expensive on Monday than a month ago, when gas was $3.073.

Delaware

Gas prices in Delaware dropped on Monday, coming in at $3.073 for a gallon of regular. This was a minimal drop from Sunday’s price of $3.076. Prices are less expensive than a week ago when regular gas was $3.187 per gallon. However, gas in the state is more expensive than a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas cost $2.978.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Virginia fell on Monday, coming in at $3.081. Monday’s pricing is less expensive than a week ago in Virginia, when regular gas was $3.131 per gallon. However, the current average price for a gallon of regular gas in the state is more expensive than a month ago, when regular gas was $2.994 per gallon.
