A post shared on X claims to depict a large crowd waiting to see 2024 Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden.
The photo is from 2011 and depicts former President Barack Obama visiting Ireland.
Fact Check:
Presidential candidate Donald Trump held a rally at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on October 27th.
Social media users are claiming an image depicts a large crowd waiting outside of Madison Square Garden ahead of the rally. One user wrote, “This picture was taken 3 HOURS ago of people lined up to see Trump at MSG. 👀.”
The claim is false. Getty Images dated this photo May 23, 2011 and its title reads, “US President Barack Obama Visits Ireland.” The Irish flag can be seen next to the American flag in the top right corner of the photo. Photos of the crowd waiting for former President Trump at Madison Square Garden do not include an Irish flag. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Early Voting in Michigan?)
A photo collection published by The Guardian in 2011 titled “Barack Obama visits Ireland – in pictures” includes the same photo. The photo’s description reads, “People line up at a security check in Dublin before a concert to be attended by the US president.”
