Verdict: False
The claim is false. The video, which originally stems from TikTok, shows a march in Brazil not Puerto Rico.
Fact Check:
Puerto Rican-Dominican singer Nicky Jam has walked back his endorsement of 2024 Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump following derogatory comments about Puerto Rico from comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a recent campaign rally, according to NBC News. Jam said “Puerto Rico is to be respected” and accused Hinchcliffe of “speaking poorly” of Puerto Rico via a video shared on social media, the outlet reported.
The Threads video, which has received over 500 likes as of writing, purports to show a large crowd of people marching in Puerto Rico. In the video, the crowd can be seen wearing blue shirts and carrying blue flags.
“They’re marching in Puerto Rico,” the video’s caption reads. A label included on the video indicates it originally stems from TikTok.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact reviewed the profile of the TikTok user who originally shared the video and found another clip showing what appears to be the same protest filmed from a different angle. Two recent comments shared on the video both state the scene shows Brazil.

In addition, a third video shared to the same TikTok user’s profile shows the results of Brazil’s 2024 Election, with progressive politician Jose Maria Tapajos claiming victory over Brazilian Social Democracy Party candidate JK do Povao Santarem.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the Threads video referenced in any recent credible news reports about Puerto Rico. Actually, the opposite is true. On Oct. 30, PolitiFact debunked the claim, also tracing the video’s origins to TikTok and stating that it did not show Puerto Rico but instead showed Brazil.
The false claim appears to have circulated following criticism of Hinchcliffe’s remarks at Trump’s recent campaign rally at Madison Square Garden. During the rally, Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean,” according to NBC News.
