Mark Meadows accidentally got drunk during White House morning meeting: Book

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows accidentally got drunk after unknowingly drinking alcohol during a meeting in 2020, according to a book.

Meadows, who abstains from drinking alcohol, allegedly had 3 1/2 White Claws, unaware they contained alcohol, during a meeting with then-Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought following the 2020 election, according to former Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s book Enough, according to the New York Post.

Hutchinson describes in the book how she and fellow aide Eliza Thurston found Meadows on the couch after Vought left their early morning meeting an hour early. Meadows told the two the story of what happened, saying he “started to get thirsty” during the meeting.

“I know you girls keep my fridge stocked with sparkling water, so I went and got one. I sat back down and took a sip and thought, ‘Wow this is real good!’ I looked at it and saw it was Blackberry, and thought, ‘The girls never got me this one before,’” Meadows told Hutchinson, according to the book.

“I liked it a lot and drank it pretty quick, and went and got another. Grapefruit! Another new flavor! Then I got a third and remembered I hadn’t offered Russ one, so I did, and he looked at me all weird and said no,” Meadows continued, according to Hutchinson.

The book then claims that Meadows said that Vought asked him, “Sir I know times are hard now, but are they really that bad?” He then realized the drinks had alcohol.

“My head started feeling funny, and I look down at the can and I saw that it was alcohol. I’m drinking alcohol on a Monday morning and I’ve never had a drink before,” Meadows said.

Hutchinson then claims that Meadows learned then-President Donald Trump would be heading to the Oval Office prior to noon and had told his staff to tell Trump that he was making election calls to allow for time to “sober up.”

The book, which was released on Tuesday, features several other claims from Hutchinson’s time at the Trump White House. One of her allegations in the book includes a claim that then-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani groped her on Jan. 6, 2021. A political adviser to Giuliani called the accusation a “disgusting lie,” according to CNN.

Hutchinson is best known for her testimony to the House Jan. 6 Committee, in which she claimed Trump privately acknowledged his loss in the 2020 presidential election, among other claims.
