Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough continued to defend himself Tuesday for interviewing President-elect Donald Trump.
Scarborough and his cohost and wife, Mika Brzezinski, admitted Monday that they had met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following his victory in the Nov. 5 election. The occasion marked the first time in seven years that the three had spent time together, as the anchors previously disavowed the president over political disagreements, which upset many of Trump’s opponents. Both anchors attended an event Monday where Scarborough argued that some people supported their decision.
“I just want to say thank you, first of all, to everyone who was so kind last night,” Scarborough said. “Really, yesterday I saw, for the first time, a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world because we were flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world. A very positive, very supportive, ‘I understand why you did what you did,’ etc., etc.”
Scarborough said he began receiving messages wondering about his well-being following the news of his Mar-a-Lago visit, which resulted from his friends scrolling “on Twitter.” Instead, Scarborough has seen recent in-person interactions as proof that “we’re all working towards a better America.”
However, not everyone agreed. CNN’s Scott Jennings mocked the pair Monday, saying he “did not expect Hitler to get so many meeting requests. First from Joe Biden, now from Mika and Joe, it’s amazing that literal Hitler is getting all of these meeting requests.”

Scarborough’s tone has also noticeably shifted to more positive. On the morning after the election, he said, “This is about as bleak as any time for Democrats” because it was “the biggest red wave I’ve seen since Ronald Reagan’s 49-state victory in 1984.”
Trump’s willingness to be interviewed is also a notable change in his tenor. Leading up to the election, Trump denied an interview with CBS News’s 60 Minutes, which had Vice President Kamala Harris on alone instead.
