One in every four temporary shelter beds went unused over a five-year period, costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. We can provide more information this morning from that audit conducted by the Los Angeles City Controller. It found that from 2019 to 2023, one in every four beds in city-funded shelters went unused, costing Los Angeles taxpayers an estimated $218 million.
