Barrasso is all in on supporting Trump’s ‘strong’ Cabinet nominees

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) expressed excitement about confirming “each and every one” of President-elect Donald Trump‘s Cabinet nominees, describing this as the Senate‘s “number one job” once Trump is inaugurated.

Many Republicans have called to expedite the process of confirming Trump’s Cabinet nominees, specifically for his national security team, following the terrorist attack on New Year’s Day in New Orleans, Louisiana. Amid reports that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has privately told Trump that Pete Hegseth, the incoming president’s nominee for secretary of defense, has enough votes to get confirmed, Barrasso was asked if he echoes these reported comments, to which he said yes.

“President Trump has made strong, bold choices, his nominees for his Cabinet and job number one right now, for the Senate, is to get each and every one of his nominees confirmed,” Barrasso said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “Get them in place as soon as we possibly can, and specifically the national security team after the heartbreak of what happened in New Orleans. So, Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, but across the board, we’re going to have hearings, every committee next week so we can get some of these nominees confirmed the day President Trump takes office two weeks from today, and for me, that day can’t come soon enough.”

Barrasso continued by explaining that Republicans currently have 53 seats in the Senate and that Vice President-elect J.D. Vance can also be a tiebreaking vote in the event that he is needed to confirm Trump’s nominees. For his part, Barrasso said he plans to support every nominee that Trump has put forward.

The Wyoming senator further detailed how the Senate has conducted “hundreds of meetings” with Trump’s nominees, and he has received “very strong, positive reports” from the various senators he has spoken to. He also said Trump’s nominees have all presented themselves in a “positive light” in their meetings.

In the wake of the New Orleans terrorist attack, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said he is “ready to go” to confirm Trump’s Cabinet nominees, citing how the nation is “under attack” via the southern border. He also expressed confidence that all of Trump’s nominees would get confirmed, adding that he would prefer to do the confirmation process “sooner rather than later.”

Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA) has similarly called for an expedited process in confirming Trump’s nominees, specifically those for the nation’s security team. The Louisiana governor argued that Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), Trump’s nominee for Department of Homeland Security secretary, should be confirmed the same day Trump is inaugurated on Jan. 20.
