Lara Trump says US must address ‘hornet’s nest’ terrorism in Middle East

Lara Trump said the incoming Trump administration must address terrorism hitting the United States, specifically calling for attention to be given to the Middle East.

The daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump cited how the U.S. has “never seen” the type of danger involving terrorists and gang members within its own country and that the terrorist attack in New Orleans is part of an accumulation of this threat. The attack, which killed 14 people and injured 35 others, comes as there are “350 known terrorists” within the country.

“Look, don’t forget, Sean, Donald Trump eradicated ISIS,” Lara Trump said on Fox News’s Hannity. “They were gone. No one was talking about it anymore. The guy in New Orleans was an ISIS sympathizer, he subscribed to their ideology, and was radicalized into their ideology. We weren’t even talking about those things four years ago, we have to talk about them now, because there’s been a failure at the top, we left a vacuum in the Middle East, and it’s a disaster, it’s a hornet’s nest over there.”

Lara Trump concluded her thoughts that the president-elect has “a lot on his hands to fix,” including terrorism in the U.S. She added that the violence affecting the country makes her worried due to the lack of security along the southern border and her knowledge that people with “bad intentions” are in the U.S.

On Sunday, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) vowed that the Trump administration would find terrorists with ISIS ties within the country, stating that the U.S. needs “to bring them to justice” before they attack U.S. residents.

Following the New Orleans terrorist attack, multiple Republican lawmakers have called for an expedited process in confirming the president-elect’s national security nominations. Among those prepared to support the president-elect’s nominees is Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who said Sunday he is “ready to go” for the confirmation hearings while the nation is “under attack.”

Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA) specifically called for Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), the president-elect’s nominee for secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, to get confirmed right after Inauguration Day on Jan. 20. His request comes ahead of New Orleans hosting the annual Super Bowl next month.
