The Five rants about McCarthy’s ousting as House speaker: ‘Instead of uniting and fighting, we’re doing this’

The hosts of The Five talk show expressed deep disapproval of Republicans’ move to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from his position.

The House voted 216-210 to oust McCarthy from the speakership, marking the first time the House has voted to remove the current House speaker. Jeanine Pirro, one of the co-hosts of The Five, said she was “furious” with the House’s decision and with Republicans being the ones to enact it instead of “fighting Joe Biden’s policies.”

DESANTIS BEGINS TO TAKE THE GLOVES OFF AGAINST TRUMP

“The one time we are up in virtually every metric as it relates to the Biden administration, you’ve got the Republicans going out there and showing how dysfunctional they are as Matt Gaetz is engaging in fundraising,” Pirro said. “And I gotta tell you something: I am furious! There is no question that this is something they have been trying to do for almost nine months that McCarthy has been speaker.”

Earlier in the show, the hosts referenced a post from former President Donald Trump, who asked why Republicans are “always fighting among themselves.”

Pirro agreed with Trump’s statement.

Fellow co-host Greg Gutfeld, who also agreed with Trump, said their ousting of McCarthy from the speakership is “kind of pathetic.” He also criticized Republicans for focusing on removing McCarthy instead of securing the border, lowering crime, or decreasing inflation.

“Every time the Republicans implode, you just give the Democrats more cover than Jerrold Nadler’s underpants,” Gutfield said. “We have several issues right here, right? And instead of uniting and fighting for the people of America who can sense that this country is going in a really bad direction, we’re doing this.”

The motion to vacate McCarthy was brought by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Monday, with a motion to table the attempt to oust McCarthy failing just before the vote. The House Republicans who joined Gaetz in his vote to oust McCarthy included Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Bob Good (R-VA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), and Matt Rosendale (R-MT)

Gaetz accused McCarthy of making a “Ukraine deal with Democrats” to pass aid for the country at a later date, and this was one of the main reasons he brought forward a motion to vacate the speakership. Several allies of McCarthy defended the ousted speaker before the vote, with Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) mocking Gaetz for fundraising off of his motion.
