Hillary Clinton laments ‘control’ wielded by small group of extremists’ in Congress

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for the next House speaker to combat the influence of “extremist” Republican members.
Clinton offered an analysis following the news of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ousting as Speaker of the House earlier this week during an interview on CNN. While the interview in its entirety has not aired yet, anchor Christiane Amanpour shared a clip on X, formerly known as Twitter. Amanpour asked Clinton about the possibility of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) as Speaker, and Clinton referred to the lawmaker as the “ringleader of the circus that’s been created in the republican party for the last several years.”
JIM JORDAN REVEALS WHAT THE HOUSE WOULD LOOK LIKE WITH HIM AS SPEAKER
“There needs to be a backlash against the control that this small group of extremists have,” @HillaryClinton tells me after GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s historic downfall.

As Jordan is the founding member of the Freedom Caucus and seven out of the eight Republicans who voted to vacate McCarthy are members, Clinton was likely referring to this group as she went on to speak.
“But when do they put the country first? They do not represent a majority of even the republican party when you look at the extremists in the House. They certainly don’t represent a majority of the country, and you know somebody has to stand up and say: ‘enough,'” Clinton said. “At some point, there needs to be a backlash against the control that this small group of extremists have, and I don’t know who will lead that but, but hope whoever becomes the new speaker will.”
Clinton did not express any sympathy for the recently ousted McCarthy, calling him “totally untrustworthy by any measure” and “a leader who has lost all credibility.”

Jordan has expressed his interest in becoming McCarthy’s replacement, along with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) has pledged to nominate Donald Trump for House speaker, who is currently campaigning for the GOP nomination for president. Trump beat Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.
McCarthy’s speakership was the shortest term in over a century. He followed Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who served for just shy of eight years.
