DeSantis slams Hillary Clinton for saying MAGA ‘cult’ needs ‘deprogramming’

GOP presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) slammed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Friday after she said MAGA voters might require “formal deprogramming.”

Clinton, a twice-failed presidential candidate, criticized “MAGA extremists” who she alleges “take their marching orders from Donald Trump.

“He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions, and when do they break with him? You know, because, at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members,” she said.

DeSantis was asked about the comment on CNBC’s Squawk Box and was quick to dismiss it.

“I reject that,” he said. “These are patriotic Americans. They want to see the country do well.”

MAGA voters are an important part of the Republican Party, and they are not necessarily tied to former President Donald Trump, the governor added.

“These folks get it,” he said. “They want to see the country do well. Some people will be with Trump no matter what, but I think the bulk of the people are people that appreciate what he did. They also understand that he’s got limitations in terms of his electability.

“He would be a lame duck on day one, if he could even get elected. I think he’d have major problems with personnel, and of course, he didn’t deliver on his core promises to drain the swamp, to have Mexico pay for the border wall, or to eliminate the debt. He added $7.8 trillion to the debt.”
