More Democratic lawmakers and organizations are reacting to the ongoing battle between Israel and Hamas, calling for peace on both sides after the Palestinian terrorist group launched rockets from Gaza into Israel.

Several Democratic leaders condemned the attack on Israel over the weekend, and others are calling for a broader return to order without laying blame on either side.

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) said she was heartbroken by the “ongoing violence in Palestine and Israel” and is mourning the loss of life on both sides.

“I strongly condemn the targeting of civilians and I urge an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation to prevent further loss of life,” Bush said in a statement to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Our immediate focus must be saving lives, but our ultimate focus must be on a just and lasting peace that ensures safety for everyone in the region. Violations of human rights do not justify more violations of human rights, and a military response will only exacerbate the suffering of Palestinians and Israelis alike.”

Bush is the latest “Squad” Democrat to release a statement on the attack. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) also called for an end to the “deadly violence that is killing and traumatizing generations of Israelis and Palestinians alike — including the blockade of Gaza.”

Hamas controls the Gaza Strip, a densely populated Palestinian enclave and the launching point for this weekend’s deadly assault.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said the attack was “devastating” for those “seeking a lasting peace and respect of human rights in Israel and Palestine” and condemned the Hamas attack.

The Democratic Socialists of America released a statement late Saturday night, stating they were “steadfast in expressing solidarity with Palestine” and saying Hamas’s attack was a “direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime.”

“We unequivocally condemn the killing of all civilians,” DSA said in a post to X. “It is imperative for international human rights law to be respected. But we cannot forget that the Israeli state has systematically denied Palestinians the right to self-determination for decades.”

Bush and other “Squad” Democrats’ statements contrasted with that of President Joe Biden, who defended Israel’s right to retaliate against Hamas using the military.

Within hours of the Hamas assault, the Israeli military called up reservists, and Israeli fighter jets bombed suspected Hamas bases and command posts inside densely populated Gaza.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 313 are dead and 1,990 others are injured in Gaza as a result of Israeli airstrikes. According to the Israeli Health Ministry, at least 600 people are dead, and 2,000 others are injured in Israel as of 9 a.m. Sunday. Israel’s Embassy to the United States reported that over 100 soldiers and civilians have been kidnapped in Gaza, according to the Jerusalem Post.
