Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who voted to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker, has endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) to become the next House speaker.

“Jim Jordan is an honest man, true to his word and his values,” Mace said in a post on Sunday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “He’s also a workhorse. He will put people above petty Washington politics. He has my full support to be the next Speaker of the House.”

Mace was one of eight House Republicans who joined all House Democrats in ousting McCarthy from the speakership last Tuesday. The South Carolina congresswoman had said her vote to remove McCarthy came down to broken promises, which McCarthy has dismissed as “not right.”

“I will tell you today, I am going to be supporting Jim Jordan for Speaker for a number of reasons,” Mace said in a Sunday interview on CBS’s Face the Nation, pointing to “his values, his work ethic, his ability to just run circles around everyone with regards to policy and pushing forward.”

“I’m really looking forward to rolling up our sleeves this week, no matter how this shakes out, and working hard for the American people,” Mace added, “because we’ve got to stand up for the people. We’ve got to put the American people first and move this country forward and do it in a positive way. And I think he’s going to bring that to the table.”

Jordan, who is a founding member of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, announced his bid for the speakership. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) is also entering the race for speaker.

Jordan has over 35 endorsements from fellow House Republicans, former President Donald Trump, and Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD).

“Congress must swiftly resolve the Speaker of the House race so that they may take action to support Israel. That’s why I’m supporting my friend @Jim_Jordan for Speaker,” Noem said in a Sunday post on X.

Jordan said on Sunday Morning Futures with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo that he feels “very good” about securing enough Republican votes to become the next speaker.

“We’ve got amazing feedback and incredible feedback from our colleagues across the country across the spectrum in the Republican conference; we got conservatives to what’s termed the more moderate numbers,” he said. “We got three committee chairmen for me. I feel very good about that support.”

He said the speaker’s race will come down to who can “unite the conference” and “lead for the American people.”

“That’s what we’re supposed to do in politics,” he added.

Republicans are slated to meet this week to hear from potential contenders for the speakership, with several staying silent on who they intend to support when the position comes to the House floor for a vote.
