Strategic consultant and author Rafael Marrero offers a sharp analysis of the tense relationship between the United States and China in his latest book, The Last Frontier: Chronicle of America’s Resistance Against Communist China.

In an exclusive interview with DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS, Marrero broke down the central arguments of his work, which he presents as a “detailed chronicle” of what he calls an “existential” and largely “undeclared” confrontation between the two powers.

The book delves into the complex geopolitical dynamics of recent years. Marrero argues that the United States is engaged in an “asymmetric war” against China, a struggle fought on multiple fronts: economic, technological, ideological, and—alarmingly—potentially biological.

A key element in his thesis is the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Questioning its purely natural origin, Marrero claimed that the virus served as a catalyst that not only struck the world’s health and economy but also “brutally exposed the United States’ dangerous dependency on China,” shifting the global balance of power.

Marrero paints an alarming picture by describing the U.S. as a “neocolony” of Chinese “social imperialism.” He attributed this vulnerable status to decades of flawed policies, offshoring of industry, and critical dependence on manufacturing and supplies that have undermined American sovereignty.

He also strongly criticized corporate and governmental decisions that enabled this scenario, stressing the urgent need to reverse the trend in order to restore the nation’s economic strength and strategic independence.

Faced with this diagnosis, the consultant proposed a series of solutions. He advocates for breaking economic dependence on China by repatriating supply chains, achieving energy self-sufficiency, curbing excessive public spending, and implementing strategic tariffs to protect domestic production.

– What’s the central thread of your new book, The Last Frontier: Chronicle of America’s Resistance Against Communist China?

Our new book is a 60-chapter chronicle that begins with President Donald Trump’s rise to power and looks back over five years of national developments and major actions in this undeclared war between the United States and the People’s Republic of China. It’s precisely about America’s resistance and our fight against the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) social imperialism. Viewed this way, it’s like a war correspondent’s chronicle narrating various episodes of that asymmetric war taking place on different fronts—from the economic to, in many ways, the military.

– The COVID-19 issue takes up significant space in this new work. How relevant was the emergence and spread of this virus to the interests of Communist China, especially in its geopolitical rivalry with the U.S.?

COVID-19 and the resulting global pandemic marked a before and after for this country and the entire world. The United States, like much of the world, was attacked by a virus that originated—as was later revealed and established (something we stated from the beginning)—at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, sadly with funding indirectly facilitated by entities linked to Dr. [Anthony] Fauci and the U.S. National Institutes of Health. This virus effectively defined the global balance of power and the economic and geopolitical landscape starting in late 2019, when it first emerged in China. Chinese authorities criminally concealed it from the world, resulting in millions of deaths worldwide. It was one of the worst crises in terms of health and economics the world has ever faced.

Economies across most industrialized and advanced nations were crushed overnight. In the U.S., we had to shut down the country, live in total isolation and lockdowns dictated by health policies. Within the first 30 days alone, 3% of all small businesses disappeared—alarming, considering there are over 30 million small businesses in America. Our economy and the inflation it triggered left us with consequences that we are still dealing with today. It truly highlighted the chronic level of toxic dependency we have on the greatest enemy of humanity: the Chinese Communist Party and its economy.

The virus emerged in China, and then we depended on the Chinese for medical supplies and ways to manage the disease. This exposed a deeply troubling situation I’ve been warning about for years: the United States has become, economically and in terms of production, a neocolony of Chinese social imperialism. And that must change if we want to preserve a free republic and a prosperous economy.

– Regarding the origin of COVID-19, do you consider it an organic or spontaneous event, or part of a premeditated plan by Communist China against the U.S.?

One thing is clear from the hearings conducted by the government and subsequent investigations: it was not organic. It was something that escaped from a laboratory in their country, which they then hid from the rest of the world—clearly criminal and premeditated behavior. By failing to notify other countries and failing to take necessary measures to shut down ports of entry and exit, they allowed the virus to spread disproportionately.

Had they warned that it was serious and restricted its outward spread from the outset, the global pandemic could have been contained. If you look at the military plans of the senior leadership of the People’s Liberation Army of the People’s Republic of China, there are documents detailing plans for the total destruction of the United States, written by top generals. So these actions are not divorced from the Maoist mindset of wanting to control the world and become the dominant global power. I don’t see this as an isolated or organic event.

– It’s no secret that China has experienced exponential growth in this geopolitical war with the U.S. You say the country now resembles a Chinese neocolony. How can we break this paradigm—this increasingly worrying dependency?

The current administration has proposed a series of measures that are very positive for the healthy development of our economy and for declaring our independence from the People’s Republic of China’s supply chains. First, we must put an end, once and for all, to the global wars taking place. The war between Russia and Ukraine must stop.

We must stabilize the Middle East and bring all armed conflicts to an end, because these are bleeding the U.S. economy dry and undermining our military readiness. We must also take steps to avoid a conflict with China in the Indo-Pacific, which is looming and which some experts predict could occur in 2027, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s goal of occupying and controlling Taiwan. That’s crucial. In addition, we need to stop reckless public spending, which has driven up inflation and pushed our sovereign national debt past $36 trillion. The U.S. must also develop energy independence to truly compete on the global stage in sectors like artificial intelligence.

That requires developing energy power, which until recently was being suppressed by the White House under President Joe Biden. Furthermore, we must reinvest in the manufacturing of key sectors that support our defense base—some items essential to national security, such as anti-ship missiles, can take up to two years to produce. In short, we must repatriate the supply chain from China, create jobs across our hemisphere—in the Americas, in all of Latin America—to help counteract the control that narco-terrorists and drug cartels currently exert over the region.

– A quick look at history reveals that U.S. policies themselves enabled China’s rise, which is now cause for great concern. What must be done to make that ‘Made in USA’ label globally relevant again?

I’m a fan and a strong defender of American-made manufacturing—of creating jobs so our children and grandchildren can inherit a prosperous country. After all, most of us—especially Hispanics in the U.S.—came fleeing communism or the terrible conditions created in Latin America. So what must we do to bring back “Made in USA” and build a thriving economy? We need to emphasize national production. We must wisely implement tariffs to promote local manufacturing, as President Donald Trump is doing. Because our current issue is one of deficit and trade imbalance. All our supposed partners and allies around the world, and even our main trading partners like China—we are their number one buyer—have amassed their power thanks to our failed foreign policies.
