House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has canceled votes scheduled for Friday, May 16.

According to Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), “Members are advised that votes are no longer expected in the House on Friday, May 16.

He continued, “Last votes for the week are now expected at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. This is a change from the previously announced schedule.”

No reason has been given. No accountability offered. Just more silence from the so-called “leader” of the House.

Just last month, Johnson abruptly canceled the remainder of the week’s voting schedule, halting progress on critical conservative legislation, including the SAVE Act and measures to rein in rogue judicial activism, despite having full authority to keep the House in session.

Johnson’s choice to recess at the time, with only four legislative days scheduled the following week and a two-week vacation looming, was being blasted as political malpractice.

Johnson’s decision to abruptly shut down the House’s legislative this week has sparked backlash not just from lawmakers, but from the public online.
