NYC councilwoman arrested after bringing gun to pro-Palestine protest

A New York City councilwoman is under fire after she was taken into custody on Thursday for bringing a firearm to a pro-Palestinian protest.

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-Brooklyn), who is Jewish and has been outspoken against supporters of Palestine, was in the crowd during the City University of New York’s Brooklyn College protest, according to a report.

“[Vernikov] was observed with the but-end of a [handgun] protruding from the front portion of her pants,” a police source reportedly said.

“The Councilwoman eventually left the location and upon notification to police, the Councilwoman was contacted and she turned herself in to the 70 Precinct, in the company of her attorney [at about 2:50 a.m. Friday].”

Due to the fact that she was on school grounds, Vernikov, 39, is facing a possession of a firearm charge.

Vernikov surrendered both a firearm and a firearm permit to authorities and was provided an appearance ticket.

She was not processed, according to the report.

“If you’re standing w/ the [protesters], yelling ‘GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA’ & ‘FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, PALESTINE WILL BE FREE’ while innocent women and babies are being raped, massacred and beheaded, you’re a HAMAS supporter & apologist who would like to bring the terror here to rid the world of the Jewish people,” Vernikov posted to X with a video of her at the protest. “We will never remain silent.”

Pro-Palestinian student group CUNY4Palestine also issued a statement on Vernikov’s appearance.

“At today’’s rally on Brooklyn College campus led by the students in their SJP chapter, Inna Vernikov showed up showcasing a gun to Palestinian students and their allies,” the group posted to X.

“These are the tactics of force and intimidation used by zionist groups to silence any support for Palestine.”
