Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, captured the plight of Trump supporters in a new documentary.

Pelosi appeared on The View on Friday to promote her documentary, The Insurrectionist Next Door, which follows the story of Jan. 6, 2021, through the judicial process of some of the protesters who were charged as a result of storming the Capitol. That day, Pelosi was there with a film crew following her mother in an attempt to document the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

“So, I saw those people from the window. I got to see them, but almost like I got to see right there,” Pelosi explained to the hosts. “I got to see them, and I was always sort of curious. Who are these people? Why did they come?”

“Well, who do you think led them there?” host Joy Behar sarcastically asked. “Hello?”

“What’s so interesting to me is that he’s still roaming the streets as a free man, at least to this day,” Pelosi said, referring to former President Donald Trump, “and all these other people have gone to jail.”

The documentary centers on those protesters who were charged with misdemeanors for entering the building. Pelosi did not interview anyone who broke anything or hurt any officers but implied that more aggressive and radical groups such as the Proud Boys manipulated these nonviolent offenders, referred to by the group and Pelosi as “normies.”

“Some had remorse for what they did, but most still had unblinded loyalty to Trump,” Pelosi said of her subjects. “A lot of what they say is: ‘I got caught up in the heat of the moment.’ That’s not an excuse. They did some really bad things. But there is a certain — [Trump] has the cult of personality, and they have a sort of religious attachment that is still not broken.”

Pelosi railed against the characterization of even these nonviolent offenders as “tourists,” pointing to a text sent from one of the protesters lamenting that she couldn’t “put a bullet in Nancy Pelosi’s brain.” To Pelosi, Jan. 6 was “one of the darkest days in American democracy.”

Raw footage captured by Pelosi’s crew already aired last year following a Jan. 6 commission hearing. A complete documentary is set to air on HBO on Oct. 15, with further plans to stream on HBO Max.
