Kim Ng, Major League Baseball’s first female general manager, is leaving her position as GM of the Miami Marlins following three seasons with the organization.

Ng was offered to continue on as the Marlins GM after the team exercised its option, but Ng passed up on the offer, according to a report.

“Although the club exercised its team option for her to return for the 2024 season, Kim has declined her mutual option. We thank Kim for her contributions during her time with our organization and wish her and her family well,” Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman said in a statement released Monday.

“We will immediately begin a thorough and extensive search for new leadership as we plan to continue to invest in the Marlins organization both on and off the field. We are committed to our fans and the South Florida community and look to build off the momentum of the great progress of this year.”

Throughout Ng’s tenure as general manager, the Marlins had a 220-266 record, and the Marlins made the wild card this season after finishing third in the NL East, the report noted.

Following her 2020 hire with the Marlins, Ng was the highest-ranking female executive in North America’s four major sports leagues.

Should Ng want to take another general manager position within the MLB, the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets present possible opportunities, the report noted.
