Rep. John James (R-MI) announced his bid for reelection in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District on Monday, touting more than $2 million on hand and $1.28 million raised during the year’s third quarter.

James, an Army veteran and businessman, said he would like to continue fighting for the region in Congress next year, including fighting for veterans and first responders.

“As a former businessman and combat veteran, I remain mission-focused on delivering results for our district through investments in Selfridge and local infrastructure, along with financial relief for families and workers who are struggling from the impacts of inflation,” James said in a press release.

“It’s an honor to continue serving my neighbors, and I look forward to earning voters’ support by delivering results to strengthen our local economy, improve our infrastructure, and ensure our law enforcement has the resources they need to protect our communities,” he said.

James touted two bipartisan pieces of legislation he authored, which are pending in the House. They are the “Reignite Hope Act” and the “Road to Recovery Act,” and he said they show his commitment to helping his community.

“The Reignite Hope Act will increase the child tax credit and support local heroes such as first responders, nurses, and caretakers,” the lawmaker said. “The Road to Recovery Act will support our community efforts to combat substance abuse and addiction.”

James’s campaign said in the first nine months of his term, the lawmaker secured $25 million for his district and $48 million for the state, protected the Great Lakes, supported measures to secure the borders, and supported measures to unleash American energy production.

“Despite the noise in Washington, D.C., John James remains mission-focused on delivering for his district,” the campaign said. “That’s what his record proves.”

James is facing a challenge from former opponent Carl Marlinga, who won the Democratic nomination last year but fell 1,600 votes short of a victory in the general election. There are now five Democrats who hope to defeat James next year. The Democrats control the governor’s office and both chambers of Michigan’s legislature. They also won 3 out of 4 competitive House seats during the midterm elections.

Prior to his time in Congress, James served on active duty in the military as an aviation officer for eight years. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. His service included leading two Apache platoons in combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007 to 2009.
