Only six days remain for customers of CenterState Bank to file a claim and receive part of a $2.65 million class-action settlement with the financial institution.

Allegations that the bank had been charging illegal overdraft fees to customers prompted the settlement with the bank. The financial institution, now called SouthState Bank, has not admitted to any wrongdoing that was alleged but agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

Customers of CenterState Bank who qualify for the settlement will get a prorated share of the net settlement, determined by how much they were charged in illegal fees, while filers can receive either a cash payment, account credit, or forgiveness of uncollected fees.

To be eligible for the settlement, individuals must have had a checking account with the bank and were charged certain types of overdraft fees on debit transactions from April 6, 2015, to May 31, 2020. Those who were charged fees for insufficient funds or overdraft on automated clearing house debits or checks between Aug. 18, 2015, and Aug. 21, 2020, also qualify for the class-action settlement.

The deadline for affected customers to file for exclusion or objection to the settlement is Oct. 23, with an approval hearing for the settlement scheduled for Nov. 30.

Other class-action settlements with deadlines soon include one involving A&W Concentrate and Keurig Dr Pepper over allegations of misleading advertising. The deadline for that $15 million class-action settlement is Oct. 18.
