Riders Stranded 160 Feet Up After Rollercoaster Malfunctions Again

Riders on the “Siren’s Curse” rollercoaster at Ohio’s Cedar Point amusement park were stranded 160 feet in the air — again.

The rollercoaster, which debuted in late June, broke down for the fourth time — this time stopping just after climbing the massive 160-foot tower at the beginning of the ride, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

Fortunately, the malfunction occurred before the coaster’s tilting feature was engaged, sparing passengers from being suspended upside down or dangling midair. (RELATED: Fifth-Tallest Roller Coaster In The World Shut Down After Visitor Reports Massive Crack)

A park spokesman said the ride’s safety system “performed as designed,” triggering a shutdown to prevent a more dangerous failure, the outlet reported. However, it could not be restarted, forcing a full evacuation.

Video shared to social media shows terrified riders descending a narrow emergency staircase along the steep incline, clinging to railings as they cautiously made their way down. One pair of riders appeared frozen in fear, creating a bottleneck behind them.

“My fear of heights would’ve made me passed out,” one person wrote on X.

“That walk down is definitely 10 times scarier than actually riding the ride,” one user commented.

“I’m scared of heights. If this happened to me, my bones would’ve melted,” another joked.

Siren’s Curse, billed as the tallest, fastest and longest coaster of its kind in the U.S., has faced multiple sensor-related stoppages since opening. On opening day, a power outage halted the ride and left guests dangling over a ledge for 10 minutes.

On July 2, it stalled on the same 160-foot platform, and on July 19, it froze at a 45-degree angle for roughly 20 minutes before resuming, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

Despite the recurring issues, Cedar Point has assured the public that all safety mechanisms are functioning properly.
