Police reportedly took a suspect into custody after a shooting Monday outside a casino and resort in Reno, Nevada.
An individual shot several people before being apprehended by officers and taken to a local hospital, The Associated Press (AP) reported, citing police. The Reno Police Department (RPD) said they had one suspect in custody in a post on X. A Washoe County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told the AP that an officer was involved in the incident.
The alleged shooting took place at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort, according to 2 News Nevada. Authorities said the suspect was an adult male and claimed officers received minor injuries, but not connected directly to the shooting. An unclear number of victims allegedly sustained gunshot injuries in the incident, the outlet reported. Police said the motive behind the incident remains unclear.
Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo announced that his office was following the incident Monday on X. “The Nevada Department of Public Safety is assisting local authorities with this investigation and will provide support to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Reno Police Department as needed,” he wrote.

“While we wait for more information, please join Donna and me in praying for the victims and their families and for our brave first responders,” the governor continued.
Reno City Council Member Devon Reese said there were fatalities in a social media post. “Tragically, lives have been lost this morning in Reno in yet another act of senseless gun violence,” Reese claimed in the Facebook post.
The RPD advised locals to avoid the area, the AP reported. Several emergency vehicles, including ambulances, were seen outside the building on Monday.
