Evacuations Underway as Tsunami Sirens Go Off in Hawaii After 8.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Russia – Trump Posts Warning

As reported earlier, a powerful magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Tuesday evening (early Wednesday local time).

Evacuations were underway after a tsunami warning was issued for all of Hawaii.

Tsunami alerts were issued for Alaska and the entire US West Coast.

The first tsunami wave is expected to hit around 7:15 local time in Hawaii.

Tsunami waves are expected to hit California’s coast after midnight PST.

Fox News reported Tuesday’s earthquake off Russia may be one of the 10 biggest quakes ever recorded.

President Trump posted a statement about the earthquake and tsunami warning.

“Due to a massive earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean, a Tsunami Warning is in effect for those living in Hawaii. A Tsunami Watch is in effect for Alaska and the Pacific Coast of the United States. Japan is also in the way. Please visit tsunami.gov/ for the latest information. STAY STRONG AND STAY SAFE!” President Trump said.
