79-Year-Old Man Allegedly Calls 911 To Tell Police He Murdered His Wife

Police accused a 79-year-old California man of murdering his wife and calling in the alleged crime to authorities.

Deputies arrested Donel Mark Geisen in connection to the July 24 murder of his wife, Barbara Lynn Geisen, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said in a press release issued Monday.

Officials said Geisen was receiving treatment for “critical self-inflicted injuries he sustained after calling 911 to report he had murdered his wife.”

The alleged murder took place at the couple’s residence in Carmel, California. Geisen’s wife died from her injuries at the home, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

“We received a call through our 911 system where a male had called in, specifically stating that he had murdered his wife,” an MCSO spokesperson told local outlet KSBW8. Deputies allegedly discovered Geisen and a 78-year-old female in the residence’s bedroom with multiple stab injuries. Authorities have not revealed a motive and it remains unclear if deputies found a murder weapon, KSBW8 noted. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, according to the press release.

Medical personnel looked over and treated Geisen at an area hospital. Deputies then booked the suspect at the Monterey County Jail and a judge set his bail at $1,000,000.

Mark Howard, a neighbor, spoke to KSBW8. “My wife was awoken first, and she woke me up to let me know there was excessive police activity right across the street. I didn’t see it, but she saw the two ambulances and the two fire trucks, multiple police vehicles, and she… we just saw a lot of police activity outside, including, she thought, them carrying at least one and potentially two stretchers,” Howard told the outlet.

“It’s very quiet. So to have, you know, multiple police and other vehicles show up at 4:45, 4:30, with all the lights. Shocking,” he continued.
