REPORT: Man Pummels Grandfather With Sports Gear, Sprays Him With Toxic Substance

Police arrested an Iowa man after he reportedly beat his grandfather with golf clubs and then sprayed wasp killer on his injuries.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance Monday in Davenport, Iowa, and discovered a 71-year-old man in a residential basement with lacerations to his body and head and blunt force trauma to his head, police told KWQC. The man told officers that his 38-year-old grandson, Joshua Ragan, struck the back of his head and then pushed him, leading to him falling, authorities said.

Ragan then allegedly struck his body and head several times using golf clubs. Officials claimed that Ragan then sprayed wasp killer into the 71-year-old’s injuries while the elderly man was lying on the floor. Ragan allegedly said he would electrocute and kill his grandfather during the incident. Officers said the 71-year-old witnessed his grandson retrieve three firearms that were inside the residence.

The grandfather was unable to contact law enforcement for approximately three hours because Ragan had disabled his phone, police told KWQC.

Ragan allegedly confessed to striking his grandfather with golf clubs and spraying the wasp killer into his injuries during an interview with police.

The alleged victim was transported to a hospital after he suffered a broken wrist and rib and facial injuries. The man required stitches in his head.

Authorities charged Ragan with assault while participating in a felony, assault with intent, false imprisonment, willful injury, older individual assault and three felony possession of firearm charges, Scott County inmate records show. His bond is set at $25,000.

The Davenport Police Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
