A career criminal who allegedly attempted to abduct a three-year-old from a Virginia mall last month was released from jail days before the incident, according to court records.
Andres Caceres-Jaldin was released from jail in Fairfax County, Virginia, on his own recognizance following a July 2 incident where he allegedly failed to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in felony injury, court records show. Caceres-Jaldin did not have to pay bond if he signed a written promise agreeing to appear in court in the future, according to 7News On Your Side, who referenced the court records while reporting on the alleged attempted abduction.
The prosecutor, Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano, previously received thousands of donations from a PAC tied to George Soros, according to local reporting.

The attempted abduction occurred July 18 at 11:43 a.m. on the 11700 block of the Fair Oaks Shopping Center, a press release from the Fairfax County Police Department indicated. The child was near an indoor play area when Caceres-Jaldin allegedly attempted to snatch her and run off. Caceres-Jaldin made it to the second level of the mall before one of the child’s parents intervened.
Caceres-Jaldin then allegedly fled the scene, and police determined he was was staying at the Extended Stay in Chantilly, where he was arrested, according to the same release. Caceres-Jaldin was charged with Abduction of a Minor and Grand Larceny, Auto Theft as a result of an incident that occurred prior to the attempted abduction in which he allegedly stole a vehicle. In addition to these two incidents, Caceres-Jaldin has a lengthy criminal record, with court records showing multiple charges since 2015, including assault and battery of a family member, malicious wounding and destruction of property. According to NBC Washington, Caceres-Jaldin allegedly assaulted his parents and brother in 2024. He was not prosecuted by Descano for the assault and battery or malicious wounding charges, 7News On Your Side reported, citing court records.
Descano received $601,369 from the Justice and Public Safety PAC when he campaigned to become Virginia’s top prosecutor, the Fairfax County Times reported in 2022. The PAC’s sole donor was liberal billionaire, George Soros, who is known for funding progressive causes, according to the outlet.
The Daily Caller has contacted the Fairfax County Police Department, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and Descano’s office for comment.
