Newly released footage shows the moment cops in Reno, Nevada, took down the alleged gunman in the casino shooting that claimed the lives of three individuals.

The Reno Police Department (RPD) released body cam footage Tuesday of the officer involved shooting that took place on July 28. The RPD responded to the scene of an active shooter at the Grand Sierra Resort Casino just before 7:30 a.m., locating the suspect in a parking lot.

“When officers arrived on scene, the suspect immediately fired at the officers, striking a patrol vehicle,” Reno Police Capt. Robert Larson said. “Officers returned fire, striking the suspect numerous times, stopping the threat.”

Footage shared by the police department shows officers arriving on scene, jumping out of their vehicle and yelling, “Put the gun down!” as the alleged gunman aims a firearm at the officers. Gunfire is then exchanged between him and the responding officers.

The alleged suspect appears to continue shooting as he runs backwards, later running behind some parked vehicles as one officer calls out, “Shots fired. Shots fired.” The police department noted the suspect continued to fire while behind the trucks.

One of the officer’s body cams shows several shells flying near the vehicle. Moments later, another officer then calls for the cops to hold fire. (RELATED: Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Allegedly Stabbed Officer During Scuffle)

“He’s down, we got security on the back drop. Hold fire,” an officer can be heard saying. Additional footage shows officers approaching the suspect who appears down on the ground surrounded by blood.

Officers then located the gun after approaching the alleged gunman. The suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Dakota Hawver, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, Larson said. Hawver died on July 30 after succumbing to his injuries.

During the shooting at the casino, Hawver, shot six individuals, killing three people, according to police. The victims included two 33-year-old men, Justin Aguila and Andrew Canepa who were visiting Nevada from Southern California for a bachelor party, according to the Sparks Police Department. The two were shot from behind while waiting at the resort’s valet section for a ride to the airport.

The third victim, 66-year-old Angel Martinez was allegedly “ambushed by the suspect” as he was driving his car through the casino’s parking lot. Sparks Police said Hawver fired roughly 80 rounds during the shooting.

Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance said during a press conference that a singular office sustained minor injuries during the shooting, likely due to glass fragments. Larson noted in Tuesday’s video that Hawver shot the police vehicle four times, including twice in the windshield.

The involved officers were placed on administrative leave following the incident, per the department’s protocol. The department’s internal affairs office will investigate the incident to determine if the officers’ “tactics, use of a deadly weapon, and use of force were in line with the department’s policies and procedures,” RPD Public Information Officer Chris Johnson said.
