REPORT: Group Of Masked Thieves Rob California Jewelry Store, Elderly Owner Has Stroke

Masked thieves stormed a San Jose jewelry store Friday afternoon, assaulting the elderly owner and leaving him hospitalized after a stroke, police said.

The suspects, dressed in black, entered Kim Hung Jewelry around 2:10 p.m., smashing display cases and fleeing with stolen merchandise in multiple vehicles, the San Jose Police Department told KTVU News. At least one of the suspects was armed with a gun. (RELATED: Police Officer Slashed In Face, Suspect Fatally Shot After Cops Chase Him Down)

Surveillance footage published by Bay Area Kulture shows the men breaking cases and one suspect shoving the owner to the ground.

The store’s 88-year-old owner suffered a stroke during the attack, according to a Saturday X post from Chris Moore, who said he is a friend of the owner’s relative.

“My friend’s 88-year-old uncle’s San Jose Jewelry Store was robbed on Friday, 9/5 at 2:00 p.m. They ran a truck through the store and then pushed him down. He was injured by broken glass and then had a stroke,” Moore wrote.

Moore later told KTVU News the owner was hospitalized, determined stable Sunday, and released.

San Jose confirmed the incident to KRON News, saying, “The suspects drove a vehicle through the front of the business. Multiple suspects entered the store with at least one suspect armed with a firearm. The suspects broke the displays and took jewelry. The suspects fled the scene in multiple vehicles.”

The suspects remain at large as the San Jose Police Department’s robbery unit investigates, the outlet reported.
