CREEPY: Albania Appoints AI ‘Minister’ as Part of Government Cabinet

Albania’s AI Minister

Albania has added an artificial intelligence (AI) bot to its cabinet in the government claims will promote transparency and reform.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Friday that a virtual “minister” named Diella will join his new government, with a mandate to combat corruption and streamline state services.

“Diella is the first member not physically present, but virtually created by artificial intelligence,” he told party members.

He explained that Diella’s systems were “100 percent incorruptible and where every public fund that goes through the tender procedure is 100 percent legible.”

“This is not science fiction, but the duty of Diella,” he added.

Developed in cooperation with Microsoft, Diella is portrayed in traditional Albanian dress and was first introduced earlier this year on the government’s e-Albania online platform.

Since then, she has reportedly helped users with nearly one million requests for digital documents and services. Officials have insisted her algorithms rely on the most advanced AI tools available.

The announcement comes as Rama’s Socialist Party begins a fourth term in power, having secured 83 of 140 parliamentary seats in a recent general election.

That gives the Socialists control of government, though not the two-thirds majority needed to amend the constitution.

EU accession remains a central political goa of the Balkan countryl, but the bloc has demanded tougher action against corruption and organized crime, problems that have dogged Albania since the collapse of communism.

Rama has promised to conclude European Union membership talks by 2027.

The government argues that bringing Diella into cabinet will help institutions adopt European practices and improve accountability.

President Bajram Begaj has authorized Rama to form the new government, effectively clearing the way for Diella’s inclusion.

The opposition Democratic Party, which won 50 seats, has denounced the move as unlawful.

Parliamentary leader Gazmend Bardhi denounced the move as “buffoonery,” warning it cannot be treated as legitimate state policy.

Lawmakers are expected to vote on Rama’s cabinet soon, but it is not yet clear if Diella’s post will be part of the formal ballot.
