Two Florida teens are facing felony charges of burglary and criminal mischief after they allegedly vandalized an elementary school’s media center.
The boys, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, broke into the media center at Friendship Elementary School in Deltona and caused no less than $50,000 in damage, according to a Monday post by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO). Over the weekend, deputies responded to a fire alarm at the school and discovered a shattered glass door and vandalized media center had been vandalized, the agency posted Monday.
Body cam video shows cabinets left open, what appears to be marker on the walls and furniture toppled over inside the media center. Subsequent posts from the VCSO show a photo of the two suspects and an update saying their mothers had turned them in.

The boys claimed they were “bored,” deputies said, Click Orlando reported. They broke into the school during the day and then returned in the evening to cause more damage, according to the VCSO. Besides the felony charges of burglary and criminal mischief, they are also facing charges of trespassing on school grounds and theft.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood recalled how the teen suspects were identified while speaking with Click Orlando.
“Once we post on social media, it blows up — I don’t know how many tips come in telling us who these two little cherubs are and the mothers of both the little cherubs call us,” Chitwood said.
“I’ve got to give the moms credit. They called us, they didn’t tell the kids we were coming, and when they were questioned, they confessed to what they did. One of them then went up to the bedroom and got out some items that were stolen from the school – a radio and some digital cameras – and turned them over to us,” he told the outlet.
