Tulsa Defenders Shield Staff Who Celebrate Murder

The Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office has become embroiled in controversy following a social media post by assistant attorney Chance Bennett, who commented “Good” in response to the news of the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado strongly condemned the comment, calling it a “total and absolute lack of human decency” and stating that “we cannot celebrate the death of another human being.”

County Prosecutor Steve Kunzweiler also expressed his disapproval, noting that Bennett’s behavior is “inappropriate” for someone holding a legal position in Oklahoma.

The Public Defender’s Office issued a statement clarifying that Bennett’s opinions do not reflect those of the office and that, while Bennett has the right to free speech, her behavior is inappropriate for someone representing the justice system.

Additionally, it was reported that Bennett had defended her social media post, arguing that being glad Kirk could no longer cause harm was not the same as rejoicing in his murder.

However, this stance was widely criticized by local and national leaders, who called for her removal and emphasized the importance of maintaining human decency and rejecting political violence.

The controversy has sparked a debate over professional ethics and the responsibility of public officials in both their official duties and personal conduct.
