Police found multiple children, including a two-month-old baby, locked in a storage unit Tuesday in Wisconsin, leading them to arrest two people, according to TMJ 4.
After receiving a report that there were children locked in a local storage unit, the Milwaukee Police Department responded to 27th and Silver Spring Drive at 1:36 a.m. Tuesday, TMJ 4 reported. Inside the storage unit, police discovered six children, ranging in age from two-months-old to 9-years-old.
Police said the children were unharmed but brought two individuals — a 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man — into custody, according to TMJ 4. Police said they were arrested in connection to an “abuse/neglect incident,” NBC News reported.
Donnie Earl, who rents a storage unit at the StorSafe facility, told TMJ 4 he was “shocked” by the police’s discovery.
“I’m shocked, I’m confused, I’m like, you don’t see kids in here ever. So how is that possible? The whole time [I’ve] been here, I [have] never seen any kids,” Earl, who visits the facility daily, said. (RELATED: More Than A Dozen Injured In 2 Mass Shootings At Homeless Encampments In Minneapolis)
According to FOX 6, neighbors said they’d noticed the children at the storage unit facility in recent days.
Tonya Lowe, a local resident, told FOX 6 she “could not believe” what happened.
“It touched my heart. I had to come out. I could not believe it. We have failed these kids. As people, the community,” she said.
“They had no support. We don’t need to be cruel and treat our kids like animals and lock them in places they don’t deserve to be put in,” Lowe said.
Police will not confirm if the adult suspects are related to the children, according to WISN. The children are currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will review the suspects’ charges, WISN reported.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The Daily Caller contacted the Milwaukee Police Department which did not respond as of publication.
