Two weeks after the terrorist group Hamas attacked southern Israel, protests have sparked throughout the nation, with pro-Palestine rallies demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

A crowd of more than 1,000 demonstrators rallied Friday in midtown Manhattan, New York, marching to the office of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Democratic New York state Assemblyman Zohran Kwame Mamdani led a crowd in calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

The New York Police Department confirmed to the Washington Examiner on Saturday that 137 arrests were made. Those arrested were issued a summons to appear in court.

The protest began around 5 p.m. on the steps of the New York Public Library, and multiple New York elected officials joined the movement. Marching from Fifth Avenue and along Third Avenue, protesters held signs that read “Free Palestine” and “Ceasefire Now.”

Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reported 4,137 Palestinian deaths as of Friday. Israel officials say more than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, and the military reported around 200 hostages were taken into Gaza since the start of the attacks on Oct. 7.

Dozens of protests have broken out across the country, including another pro-Palestine rally in New York City’s Times Square last week.

This Thursday in Times Square, demonstrators organized by the Israeli-American Council and other Jewish community groups demanded Hamas release the hostages. On Wednesday, a pro-Israel rally was held in Manhattan, while a pro-Palestinian demonstration occurred in Queens.

On Thursday, United States Capitol Police made more than 300 arrests in Washington, D.C., when protesters held a demonstration inside the Cannon House Office Building. The anti-war group Jewish Voice for Peace rallied against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. While the building is open to the public, protests are not allowed in congressional buildings.
