A coach of a 10-year-old boys team, the Houston Warriors, was shot in the shoulder during a pregame prayer and was later airlifted to the hospital, according to KHOU 11.
“When he was struck by the bullet, his first reaction was to get down to the ground, cover his kids and get them to a safe space,” Andy Baize, founder of the team, told the outlet.
“His first question to the physicians was I need to leave because I have to go coach my kids at 3 p.m.,” he said.

“It’s hard for me to talk about right now because of their faces. I’ll never forget looking at them,” Texas Colts Coach Alex Smith told the outlet.
The owners of the baseball fields released a Facebook statement Wednesday.
“In addition to the efforts of local law enforcement, we have implemented enhanced security measures for all tournament weekends,” TheRac Baseball stated, adding that they plan to reopen the facility by Monday.
“We remain deeply grateful to the baseball community for their support and understanding, and we will continue to keep those affected by this accident in our thoughts and prayers,” the statement concluded.
In a Sunday statement, TheRac stated there was recreational shooting occurring on a nearby property, and law enforcement was notified of potential illegal hunting.
